To avoid probation, many people add their child’s name on the deed to their house. The disadvantages outweigh the advantage of avoiding probate.

  1. Loss of Control

When you add your child’s name onto the deed, you make your child the legal co-owner of your house. Should you want to sell the house, you must obtain your child’s agreement. If they disagree, you cannot sell.
